The new president of the American Bar Association (ABA) wants in-house counsel to play an important role in the group’s future, so much so that he named an in-house counsel to chair the ABA’s new Commission on the Future of Legal Services.
ABA President William Hubbard took on the post in mid-August and immediately created the new commission, appointing Judy Perry Martinez, vice president and chief compliance officer of Northrup Grumman Corp. in New Orleans, to lead it. “As corporate law departments have grown in size, they have grown in importance in our justice system and in the legal profession. We need that voice in the American Bar Association,” Hubbard said in an interview in The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.
