The Investment Company Institute, a leading fund-industry trade group in Washington, D.C., is picking up senior U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer David Blass as its general counsel.

Blass, the chief counsel and associate director of the SEC Division of Trading and Markets, will start as ICI’s top lawyer in September, the organization announced Friday. He will replace Dorothy Donohue, who has been acting GC since February and now will serve as the group’s deputy general counsel. ICI, which counts the Blackstone Group, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. among its members, has about two dozen in-house lawyers and support personnel.
