Compiled from 2,110 real cases of employee fraud (also called occupational fraud) investigated in 133 countries, the report was coauthored by ACFE General Counsel John Warren and Research Director Andi McNeal. Its research was conducted from January 2020 to September 2021, and resulted in a dire warning to general counsel charged with protecting their companies from fraud.

“This is just a snapshot,” Warren said. “Occupational fraud is likely the costliest and most common form of financial crime in the world. This is bigger than health care fraud, tax evasion, money laundering and identity theft.”
