It makes one almost envious of Sisyphus to be in the position of in-house compliance or privacy counsel trying to keep up with the myriad consumer privacy proposals in more than 30 states.

Most state legislatures returned to session in January, and we are off to the races in what is shaping up to be another significant year for U.S. state legislative activity around consumer privacy. We have already seen a flurry of activity as legislators move to build upon successful recent efforts in California, Virginia and Colorado. The pace of developments can be hard to keep track of, even for lawyers who work on privacy issues full time.
