As their responsibilities increased during the pandemic and regulator pressure grew, many general counsel in the financial service industry saw bigger salaries and bonuses last year, according to recently released data from Corporate Counsel’s 2021 General Counsel Compensation Report.

ALM Intelligence examined the compensation, including salaries and bonuses, of general counsel at Fortune 1000 companies, looking at 2020 disclosure filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Corporate Counsel took the broadest definition of financial services to include traditional banks, hedge funds, fintech and other financial services.
