The making and the giving of Vinson & Elkins' neckties—at the NAPE oil and gas summit every February—has grown into an annual tradition for the firm, now quite proud of its most in-demand branded swag. "You've got to do something bold for the energy space," Lande Spottswood, a corporate finance senior associate in Houston and the firm's chief tie designer, said. The 2011 batch of ties numbered 350. The 2016 order will hit 1,000 ties and include makeup cases.
