The economic volatility of the last two years has made it challenging for firms to align lawyer headcount with the volume of client demand. But if the number of “Super Rich” firms in the Am Law 100 is any indication of the financial health of the industry’s wealthiest players, 2023 wasn’t so bad. The list grew by four to reach 38—the second-largest membership the Super Rich club has seen in its decade-long history.

Super Rich firms—defined as any Am Law 100 firm that generated a minimum profits per lawyer (PPL) of $550,000 and revenue per lawyer (RPL) of $1.1 million in the preceding financial year—identifies the firms that most profitably deployed legal talent.
