Instead of scaling back its commitment to diversity in response to a letter from affirmation action opponent Edward Blum suggesting the firm could be sued over its diversity programs, Susman Godfrey is expanding the programs.

Earlier this month, Susman Godfrey received a letter from the American Alliance on Equal Rights asking if the firm’s 1L Diversity Fellowship and the Susman Godfrey Prize for Students of Color will be awarded in 2024 and if any changes will be made to the programs’ criteria regarding the consideration of race, as well as what role race will play in the future of the programs.
