Last year was full of tough decisions for Gerald Greenspoon, co-founder of Greenspoon Marder. After a decade of steady growth, the 196-lawyer Fort Lauderdale law firm in March 2020 faced substantial income losses in hospitality, hotels, restaurants, bars, liquor license transfers and applications and residential foreclosure work.

The firm initially laid off 40 staff and five attorneys and laid off 30 more attorneys over the course of the year. All told, four partners, 16 associates, and 15 of counsel or contract attorneys departed the firm, Greenspoon said.
