Following in the steps of Florida’s Miami-Dade County, complex business lawsuits in the state’s Broward Circuit Court soon may be heard in a specialized new business court designed to streamline the handling of such cases and allow judges to gain more expertise.

A business court has been discussed in Broward for some time. But the run-up to the election of a chief judge helped bring the issue into the forefront, with both runoff candidates supporting its creation.

Business litigators are pushing hard for it, but some attorneys argue it would give unfair advantages to wealthy people and corporations.
