Marshall L. Small joined Morrison & Foerster in 1954, going on to build an active corporate practice. He retired as an active partner at 65 -- but when the firm "decided it would be a good idea to have an inside general counsel," they asked him to serve. "It's important to take time to smell the roses," he said.
