A Miami-Dade Circuit judge ruled last week that retroactive promotions for Miami police officers suing the city will be part of the damages portion of a 9-year-old lawsuit brought by officers who say they were given a faulty civil service exam.

Circuit Judge Victoria Platzer ruled last month that the 1994 exam, given to police officers applying for promotion to the rank of sergeant, was faulty.
