The Supreme Court on Monday declined to decide an employment discrimination lawsuit against the office of former Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn. The justices said the Court lacks jurisdiction to consider a suit by ex-Dayton staffer Brad Hanson, who says he was fired after telling the senator he needed an operation to correct his cardiac arrhythmia. Hanson's suit relies upon the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, which marked a departure from Congress' historical exemption from many employment laws.

The justices said the Court lacks jurisdiction to consider the suit by an ex-Dayton staffer. A federal judge has refused to throw out the case, and the Senate employment counsel’s office had been seeking a ruling by the justices supporting dismissal.
