New Jersey's Assembly Judiciary Committee has recommended final approval of three bills that increase penalties in public corruption cases and make it easier to prosecute them. The bills passed with no opposition and may be voted on by the full Assembly before the end of June. One bill ties the degree of the crime to the amount stolen or knowingly misappropriated; another sets financial penalties for public corruption cases; and a third increases the statute of limitations for prosecuting crimes.
