Jerry Brown, California's new attorney general, says he will pursue a federal claim brought by his predecessor against U.S. and Japanese automakers seeking millions of dollars for greenhouse gases emitted by their vehicles. Brown sent a letter seeking to meet personally with chief executives of six companies. Brown will also appeal a Superior Court ruling that a state regulation does not require tuna producers to affix mercury warnings to their canned goods.

California’s new attorney general is reaching out to U.S. and Japanese automakers as he continues a federal lawsuit that seeks millions of dollars for the greenhouse gases produced by their vehicles.
Attorney General Jerry Brown sent a letter Wednesday to attorneys for the six major automakers California is suing, asking to meet personally with the chief executives of General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, Honda and Nissan.
