Joey Asher remembers his early days as a legal consultant, when he reviewed his presentations on videotape and was appalled at his stony, flat, "lawyerlike" expression. He recalls coaching attorneys to smile while they insisted they wanted to be taken seriously and not appear frivolous. But Asher says that smiles and positive facial energy connect with listeners and help build relationships. And while it may feel odd at first to smile, it can help you to look good and energized.
