Cooney's litigation practice focuses on class actions, but his representation of a wrongly convicted man with Morgan Lewis partner Michael Banks has inspired a feature film that will star Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

J. Gordon Cooney Jr., now former deputy managing partner of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius’ Philadelphia office, stepped into the role of managing partner of the office effective Oct. 1.
Cooney took over the role from the manager of the firm’s business and finance group, Howard L. Meyers, who had held the post since 2000.
