The New Jersey Law Journal reported on Feb. 20 and again on June 19 that bar association membership in New Jersey has declined during the past decade in absolute numbers and as a percentage of practicing lawyers.
County bar membership last year totaled 17,696, representing 29 percent of active lawyers; in 1995, it was 17,957, or 39 percent. Similarly, New Jersey State Bar Association membership last year was 15,887, or 27 percent, compared with 18,236, or 44 percent in 1992.
