The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Thursday that an inmate had to first file a grievance before bringing a suit claiming he was punished for alleged inappropriate activity with volunteer priests. Justice Samuel Alito said that the 9th Circuit, considered one of the most liberal courts in the country, was wrong in allowing the lawsuit. But dissenting justices wrote that prisoners have a right to, within a reasonable time, "raise constitutional claims before impartial judges."
