A Pennsylvania jury has returned a defense verdict in a failure-to-diagnose case brought by a woman who later died of colon cancer at the age of 81. Prior to the suit, gastroenterologist William Mahood had written a letter to Meye Blom in which he apologized that a colonoscopy had failed to identify her ultimately fatal tumor. "I tried my best but clearly missed this tumor. I hope you can forgive me," he wrote. Mahood's attorney said his client didn't write the letter "to prevent litigation."
