On Wednesday, Bryan Cave announced it had formed the wholly owned subsidiary of Bryan Cave International Trade LLC to expand the firm’s international trade-related services to clients and the business community. On another point, the law firm was more reticent, refusing to discuss reports of merger talks with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.

If the rumors — reported last week by trade publication Legal Week — are true, the resulting firm would weigh in with some 1,600 lawyers. Cleveland-based Squire Sanders has about 800 lawyers in 38 offices, while St. Louis-based Bryan Cave has more than 800 lawyers in 13 offices.
