State Bar of Texas officials have decided that it's time for the colony of 20 bats living in its headquarters building to move on. The $7,600 bat-removal contract is part of a $5.2 million renovation project the Bar plans for its building. Paul Rogers, director of purchasing and facilities for the Bar, says the bats have pried their way in through tiny spaces between the flashing and walls. "They only need three-fourths of an inch. At least, that's what the bat experts tell me," Rogers says.

The bats that live under the Congress Street Bridge are a popular tourist attraction in Austin, but State Bar of Texas officials have decided that it’s time for the bats that live in the Texas Law Center to go.
While it’s difficult to give bats their walking papers, Bar officials have contracted with an Austin company to evict a colony of approximately 20 bats from the Bar’s building.
