Chief Justice William Rehnquist, apparently gaining strength in his battle with thyroid cancer, may be on the Supreme Court bench today, his first public appearance at the Court since last October. A former Rehnquist law clerk who has been encouraged by the chief justice's increased strength said it would be "not inconsistent" for him to return to the bench for the start of the next two-week argument cycle. However, Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said last week, "He hasn't decided."
