Following the Bridgestone/Firestone tire recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an interpretive rule revision, stating that information concerning products manufactured or sold outside the U.S. may be relevant to defects and hazards of U.S.-distributed products. The CPSC's revision raises questions regarding the extent to which the CPSC will seek to exercise its jurisdiction and require companies to report information pertaining to products produced and sold overseas.
