NEW HIRES Joan Canny, 38, has joined Miami’s Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson as a shareholder in the labor and employment law department. She was previously a partner at New Orleans’ McGlinchey Stafford. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1989. Miami’s Greenberg Traurig has hired two new attorneys. John Scalia, 36, is a shareholder in the firm’s Tysons Corner, Va., office. He joins the labor and employment law practice from San Francisco, Calif.’s Curiale Dellaverson Hirschfeld Kelly & Kraemer, where he was a partner. He received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1991. Michelle Fongyee has rejoined the firm’s Miami office as a shareholder in the international litigation department. She was previously a partner at Miami’s Steel Hector & Davis. She received her J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law. BIG HIRES Atlanta’s King & Spalding has hired four new partners to the firm’s litigation group in the firm’s New York office. Jeffrey Q. Smith, 48, was previously the co-chairman of the litigation department at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. He received his J.D. from New York University in 1977. Steven G. Brody, 39, was previously a partner at New York’s Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1986. Scott E. Eckas, 36, was previously a partner at New York’s Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft. He received his J.D. from Yale University in 1989. Susan F. DiCicco was previously an associate at New York’s Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft. She received her J.D. from Boston University. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS Tad Decker, 54, has been named the chair of the administrative leaders committee of Philadelphia’s Cozen & O’Connor, a position similar to a managing partner in other firms. He was previously a member in the firm. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1971. Lewis B. Greenblatt, 55, has been named the managing partner of Chicago’s Schwartz & Freeman. He was previously a partner in the firm, where he practices corporate and business law. He received his J.D. from the University of Illinois in 1969. New York’s Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman has elected Phillip Gall, 31, as a partner in the tax group. He was previously an associate in the firm. He received his J.D., cum laude, from New York University in 1994. The firm has also elevated Beth E. Levine to special counsel in the litigation and bankruptcy groups. She was previously an associate in the firm. She received her J.D. from Columbia University in 1992. HONORS New York’s Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison announced that its partner Sen. Warren B. Rudman, of the firm’s Corporate and International Law group, was honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal at a White House ceremony and with the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal by the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C.
