AMREL Systems L.L.C. has released the ROCKY Mobile, a three-piece vehicular computing system that can withstand rugged and challenging conditions. It features an Intel SpeedStep CPU. The display unit, available with a swivel platform, offers self-illuminating LCD control buttons, two standard USB ports, and a sunlight readable touchscreen. Also debuted: AMREL’s ROCKY Unlimited, similarly designed to withstand shock, vibration, water, humidity, and temperature resistance. It features an Intel Pentium III 700MHz processor, a removable hard disk drive, and a dust and water resistant, 89-key backlit keyboard. Itronix Corp. has introduced the GoBook, a notebook computer that meets military standards for dust, vibration, and impact resistance. The 7.5-pound unit features a Pentium III 700 MHz processor, and a shock-mounted 10 or 20 MB hard drive. It offers a waterproof “NiteVue” glow-in-the-dark keyboard, and a 12.1-inch, SVGA, TFT color “Outdoor Colorvue” display. CAMERAS Olympus America Inc. has released its D-370 Digital Camera. It produces photo-quality 4 x 6-inch prints using a 1.3 megapixel CCD with 1280 x 960 pixel resolution. It features a 4.5mm f4-f8 all-glass lens, a 1.5-inch wide-view LCD, and 2 MB of internal memory. It also accepts SmartMedia removable media. Minolta Corp. has debuted three new cameras: � The DiMAGE 5 is a single lens reflex (SLR)-type camera offering a 1/1.8-inch CCD with 3.34 million pixels. � The DiMAGE 7 is an SLR-type camera offering a 2/3-inch CCD with 5.24 million pixels. � The DiMAGE S304 offers a 1/1.8-inch CCD with 3.34 million pixels. HANDHELD SOFTWARE Advanced Merchant Solutions Inc. has released the Palm operating system version of its Pocket Verifier software, which helps users accept credit cards and checks anywhere with a wireless personal digital assistant. DigiSoft L.L.C. has introduced reViewMD, an image viewer for Pocket PCs. Along with the standard medical imaging format, DICOM, the software also supports MPEG-land, MPEG-2 video, BMP, 2BP, JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PCX, PCD, TIF, and TIFF. Users can also watch video or create slide show presentations with voice (.wav) file annotation. HANDHELD COMPUTERS NEC Computers Inc. has introduced the MobilePro 790. It features an 8.1-inch 6 K color half-VGA display (640 x 240 resolution), a 168 MHz VR1210 64-bit MIPSO microprocessor, a built-in 56 K v. 90 modem, and type II CompactFlash and type II PC card slots for expandability. SYWARE Inc. says its SYWARE SixPack includes six database applications for Windows-based handhelds. Included: Calorie Manager; Music Manager; Photo Manager; Grades Manager (for students); Recipe Manager; and Checkbook Manager. DRIVES Addonics Technologies Inc. has introduced its Pocket SuperDisk 240, a floppy drive that reads and writes data on 240 MB (LS-240) disk media. The external drive weighs less than 12 ounces and includes a utility that enables users to store and retrieve 32 MB of data on standard 1.44 MB floppy disks.
