LEXIS DEBUTS CITATION TOOLS 2001 The Lexis-Nexis Group has released its Citation Tools 2001 software, which includes a new LEXLink tool to identify legal citations from within word processing and HTML documents, and automatically creates Web hyperlinks to the cited document on the lexis.com research system. The new service can be integrated into Microsoft Corp.’s Word (97 or higher) and into Corel Corp.’s WordPerfect (8.0 (or higher), as well as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (5.0 or higher). Users can retrieve documents, cases or statutes; “Shepardize” (citation check); use CheckCite software to collect and check citations; and run lexis.com searches. Lexis also announced a new service, The LOOP, on www.lexisone. com. It features 25 discussion forums moderated by legal experts. They cover 13 practice area-specific forums; seven “office biz” topics; and five “after hours” areas. WEST SUITE West Group has launched West NetSolutions, its suite of Web-based e-business tools for legal professionals. The suite includes: FirmSite (customized Web sites that use database-driven technologies to market practices); West WorkSpace (secure Extranets for collaboration and document-sharing); LawOffice.com (for individuals and small businesses to research legal issues and connect with counsel); WestWorks research and practice management system; WestLaw Intranet Solutions; and LegalEdcenter for continuing legal education. LAWPORT SERVICE SV Technology Inc. has introduced the latest version of its LawPort service. The Web-based knowledge and practice management portal helps firms integrate Intranets and Extranets, and offers business logic, a database, directory and other functions needed to perform as an Intranet, says the San Francisco company. The program integrates with other applications, including iManage and DOCS Open document management programs; CMS Open and Elite Information Systems Inc. accounting systems, and more, it says. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY Aspen Grove Inc. has introduced its Aspen ipWorkflow software, designed to help corporate law departments or law firms manage and track IP work, in collaboration with outside counsel nationally and internationally. It handles both trademark and patent applications and filings, and supports collaboration, document generation and process management, reports the Boston company. The company’s flagship product, Aspen Workflow, is tailored to mortgage banking and financing industries. PRACTICE MANAGEMENT Solution 6 Holdings Ltd. has added OfficeXtension to its CMS OPEN software suite, to manage time, expense and disbursement data. It is designed for firms with multiple offices or large user groups, and allows offices to enter such data in a local database, as well as consolidate the transactions to a central database anywhere in the world. The Cutter Companies Inc. has launched its Intuitive Technologies Digital Data Management Suite, which it says can help firms to organize, manage, archive and retrieve digital data.
