Since it is widely expected that we will soon see a convergence of conventional telecommunications and the Internet, I took a look at the Web site of D.C.’s best known telecom firm, Wiley, Rein & Fielding, to see how Internet-savvy the firm is. What I found at www.wrf.com was a well-designed site that effectively promotes both the firm’s telecom practice (about one-third of Wiley Rein’s work) and dozens of other specialty areas. Unlike many law firm sites, this one brings together for each practice group not only the lawyers’ names and the types of cases they handle, but also their published articles in that area of law. This is much more effective than segregating the publications in a little-noticed portion of the site. The site also does an excellent job of highlighting Wiley Rein’s insurance fraud practice. Wiley Rein says it is the leading firm in the country in assisting insurers fighting fraud, an unusual and lucrative specialty. Detracting from the site are a few “blind links,” notably under “Contact us,” which lead to annoying error messages. The firm says that it’s working on that problem — and that it expects to unveil an entirely redesigned site by summer’s end.
