The following statistics were compiled nationally by the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession from a variety of listings in the field.

The Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, which reports about 43,000 attorneys active in the statewide currently, does not keep records on how many are women. However, surveys done in recent years by the Massachusetts Bar Association, while of their membership only, may be viewed as an extrapolation of the wider legal population.
