“Teen Legal Rights” By Kathleen A. Hempelman (Greenwood Press; 299 pages; $49.95) Phoenix attorney Kathleen A. Hempelman strives to provide teen-agers with a book that will answer all their legal questions. Displaying that she is no stranger to teens and their priorities, the author opens her book with the chapter “Behind the Wheel.” The user-friendly guide employs a question-and-answer format and includes, among its 18 chapters, discussions of legal rights at home, in school, and on the job; of age, race, and sexual discrimination; and of crimes against property. “The Board Book” By Susan F. Shultz (Amacom; 320 pages; $35) Subtitled “Making Your Corporate Board a Strategic Force in Your Company’s Success,” “The Board Book” attempts to lay out a blueprint for board members to help them provide clearheaded, hard-hitting, strategic direction for their companies. “This is a simple book about a powerful subject,” writes author Susan F. Shultz, the founder of SSA Executive Search International. ” ‘The Board Book’ will explain why a board is so valuable and show the best ways to recruit and structure strategic boards, dispel some of the common myths, and explain how to avoid the ten most common mistakes in creating and using strategic boards.” “Your Secrets Are My Business” By Kevin McKeown With Dave Stern (Plume Paperbacks; 261 pages; $13) Security expert Kevin McKeown claims that he knows how to get dirt on you. Give him five minutes, he says, and he can find out your Social Security number, your driving record, your family and personal history, your neighbors’ names, and more. The scary thing, McKeown warns, is that such information can be obtained about you without your knowledge. He tries to show the reader how identity theft works and what can be done to prevent it.
