Borrowing a profitable idea from its Silicon Valley counterparts, Los Angeles’s Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has set up an investment fund to reward senior associates and partners.

The formation of Manatt Venture Fund 2000 is designed in great measure to help retain associates at a time when competition is fierce for promising legal talent, said Paul Irving, Manatt’s managing partner.
