DoubleClick Inc., facing six different invasion-of-privacy lawsuits challenging its handling of data collected about individual Web surfers, could soon have company in the courtroom.
The New York-based Web-advertising leader has been sued in the past two weeks in federal and state courts. Public concern about DoubleClick has grown since November 1999, when the company bought a database of 90 million individual purchasing profiles that it could match to the 100 million anonymous profiles it had already culled from tracking visits to Web pages that host its ads.
