Personal injury lawyer John J. Sowa pleaded guilty to 27 counts of mail fraud on Tuesday, bringing a quick end to the federal government’s prosecution of him.

Sowa was indicted last month on the mail fraud charges and four counts of money laundering, all stemming from his use of so-called “runners” who referred accident victims to a chiropractor and Sowa’s law practice.
