Houston lawyer Lee Magness says he doesn’t feel bad about the diplomatic dustup caused by his family’s $234 million default judgment against the Russian government. He alleges the government has flouted international law by ignoring the suit he filed and refusing to recognize his family’s title to property confiscated from his grandfather during the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

“I think the Russian government and whoever’s in charge needs to understand that in order to conduct business in an international environment, you have to abide by international laws and norms, and they really aren’t following that,” Magness says. “They default on their obligations. People won’t go over there and invest because it’s corrupt. They’re taking property away from people,” he alleges.
