The doctrine of informed consent applies to a dentist’s patient undergoing a root-canal procedure, according to a Superior Court ruling.

Root canal operations, due to the invasive nature of the procedure, should be viewed in the same surgical or operative context in which informed consent has traditionally been applied, the court held.
