The Federal U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has reinstated a $70.6 million jury verdict in a patent dispute involving robotic tape storage systems. The decision in Odetics Inc. v. Storage Technology Corp., found that Storage Technology Corp. was infringing Odetics Inc.'s patent for an automated tape handling system. The case initially was heard before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where a jury found that Odetics' patent was not infringed.

The Federal Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has reinstated a $70.6 million jury verdict in a patent dispute involving robotic tape storage systems.
The July 9 decision in Odetics Inc. v. Storage Technology Corp., 98-1533, found that Louisville, Colo.-based Storage Technology Corp. was infringing Anaheim-based Odetics Inc.’s patent for an automated tape handling system. Visa International Service Association and Crestar Bank were also named as defendants.
