A few years down the road, some surmise, one of the Big Five accounting firms could usurp Day, Berry & Howard's position as Connecticut's largest legal outfit. That, of course, is contingent on the ABA's opening the door to multidisciplinary practices. The aggression that accounting firms have displayed overseas, where professional hybrids are allowed, concerns some Conn. lawyers who say that the marriage may be a more significant trend than the flurry of mergers among law firms.

Forecasting the future of Connecticut’s legal landscape always has been an inexact science.
Who, after all, could have predicted five years ago that Hartford’s Schatz & Schatz, Ribicoff & Kotkin would fold in 1996. Or that, come July 1, Hebb & Gitlin, another top Hartford firm, would merge with Boston’s Bingham Dana.
