SAVANNAH-A Chatham State Court jury has slapped a Savannah doctor andorthopedic clinic with what may be that court’s biggest medical malpracticeverdict: $1.75 million.

The award is all in general damages to a 41-year-old poultry worker wholost the use of her right arm after an industrial accident. The verdictlast week followed a refusal by lawyers for Dr. John P. George to acceptthe plaintiff’s offer to settle for $475,000. The defense lawyers saidthey would pay nothing.
