A Ga. State Court jury has hit a Savannah doctor and orthopedic clinic with what may be that court's biggest medical malpractice verdict: $1.75 million. The verdict last week followed a refusal by lawyers for Dr. John P. George to accept the plaintiff's offer to settle for $475,000. The defense lawyers said they would pay nothing. The plaintiff, who suffered a crippling injury that wasn't promptly treated by George, "just won the lottery," said one of the defense lawyers.
