CHICAGO Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has named a third co-leader for its corporate restructuring practice group in anticipation of more bankruptcy and distressed work over the next three years and with an eye to succession-planning at the firm. Timothy R. Pohl joined John ‘Jack’ Butler and J. Gregory Milmoe in leading the group in February, Butler said. Pohl, 41, is based in Chicago with Butler, 52, while Milmoe, 60, is based in New York. Pohl was the “natural choice,” given the mix of clients he’s brought to the firm over the past seven years since he became a partner, Butler said. Among clients Pohl has worked with are America West Airlines, SPO Partners and Black Diamond Capital Management. “We’re heading into a growth cycle for restructuring,” said Pohl, who expects the increase in work to last at least into 2009. “The waves last longer than a year or two.” Butler and Pohl didn’t say exactly how much the practice group would expand, though they didn’t expect it would be as significant as a jump to 150 lawyers from its current 100, which includes 23 partners. Most of the partners are in four U.S. offices and two are in London.
