WASHINGTON — Bracewell & Giuliani has expanded its national appellate practice with the addition two appellate litigators from Mayer Brown. J. Brett Busby has joined the firm as a partner in its Houston office. He will be joined by associate Jeffrey Oldham. Both men are former Supreme Court clerks, Busby having clerked for Justices Byron R. White and John Paul Stevens, and Oldham having clerked for the late Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. Busby has argued before the Texas Supreme Court and the federal and Texas courts of appeals, and he has briefed dozens of cases in federal and state courts at both the appellate and trial level. Before joining Mayer Brown, Oldham served in the U.S. Department of Justice as counsel to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales. The firm also announced this week that Carol Elder Bruce has joined as a partner in its Washington office, where she will practice in the white collar criminal defense and special investigations group. In private practice for the past 20 years — most recently at Venable LLP — she has represented numerous corporations and individuals in a broad range of white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions.
