In his last Judicial Conference meeting before taking senior status, Chief Judge Thomas Hogan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia was formally honored last week for using his “unassuming and inclusive style” to build consensus in the federal judiciary’s policy-making body. Hogan, who was appointed to chair the conference’s executive committee in 2005, has announced that he will step down as chief judge in May. “Judge Hogan has led the Executive Committee with insight and grace,” the resolution says. Hogan gained membership to the conference in June 2001, after taking over as chief judge. When he assumes senior status, Judge Royce Lamberth will replace him in both capacities, and Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. will appoint a new judge to chair the executive committee.
