LOS ANGELES - Federal prosecutors could call more than a dozen lawyers as potential witnesses in the wiretapping trial against celebrity sleuth Anthony Pellicano, which began this week, according to a witness list filed on Wednesday. The list of potential witnesses includes at least five lawyers at Los Angeles-based Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger, including top rainmaker Bertram Fields, who once said he is a subject of the investigation. Others at the firm who are on the list are litigators Heidi Binford, Ricardo Cestero and Charles Shephard, former chairman of the firm’s litigation department. The list also includes tax lawyer Jill Cossman and two former Greenberg Glusker lawyers, associate David Moriarty and Michael Grace, who was once in charge of the firm’s intellectual property practice. Greenberg Glusker spokesman Lonni Soury confirmed the names are on the list but declined to comment. Grace, now at Grace & Grace in Los Angeles, said he was subpoenaed a month ago but was not told what questions federal prosecutors would ask. In naming potential witnesses, prosecutors are not definitively stating that they will call those people during the trial. Other top lawyers on the witness list are: John LaViolette, a name partner at entertainment boutique Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal LaViolette & Feldman, which is based in Beverly Hills, Calif.; Dennis Wasser, a partner at Wasser, Cooperman & Carter, and divorce lawyer to venture capitalist Alec Gores, who is also on the witness list; and Stephen A. Kolodny, a partner at Kolodny & Anteau, who represented the ex-wife of billionaire Kirk Kerkorian in a paternity dispute in 2002. Kerkorian’s lawyer in that case, Terry Christensen, is the only attorney indicted in the Pellicano case. He goes to trial separately in the coming months. LaViolette’s firm confirmed he is on the list. Kolodny and Wasser did not return calls. Other lawyers on the witness list include: Criminal defense lawyer Victor Sherman, founding partner of Sherman & Sherman in Santa Monica, Calif.; Alan Weil, a partner at Los Angeles-based Gaims, Weil, West & Epstein, which settled a civil suit related to the Pellicano case; Gregory Dovel, a partner at Santa Monica, Calif.-based Dovel & Luner, who has represented screenwriter Vincent “Bo” Zenga; and Peter Knecht, a Los Angeles defense lawyer whose client list includes Rob Lowe, Robert Downey Jr. and Sandra Carradine, ex-girlfriend of Pellicano. Sherman, Weil and Dovel did not return a call for comment. Knecht confirmed he has been subpoenaed as a witness in the case. He no longer represents Carradine, “but I am still involved in the case as a witness,” he said.
