CHICAGO — Daniel Rubinstein, a former assistant U.S. attorney in both the Chicago and Los Angeles offices, has joined Greenberg Traurig. Rubinstein, 39, began work for the firm’s litigation and white-collar criminal defense practice areas in Chicago last month, he said. After working 10 years as a prosecutor, it was the right time to leave because of the “excellent opportunity” presented by the firm, Rubinstein said. He will work with a team of five other white-collar criminal defense lawyers in the Chicago office, he said. Rubinstein worked for the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago for four years just prior to joining the firm, mainly in the complex fraud section, and previously was in the Los Angeles office for 3.5 years. The San Francisco-area native also had been a deputy district attorney in Oakland, Calif., and clerked for U.S. District Judge Ernest Torres of the District of Rhode Island. The highlight of his career as a federal prosecutor came last year when Rubinstein won convictions against two car dealers who laundered $25 million in drug proceeds and sent a portion of the money to Iran, Rubinstein said. There were about 10 other people also convicted as part of the scheme, he said.
