Hofstra University School of Law has announced the appointment Nora Demleitner as dean, the first woman to hold that post at the Hempstead, N.Y., campus. University President Stuart Rabinowitz praised Demleitner, already a member of the faculty and interim dean since March, as “a distinguished legal scholar and a superb academic administrator.” Demleitner, a graduate of Yale Law School, clerked for Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., when he served on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and testified on his behalf during his confirmation hearing. Demleitner, an expert on sentencing and collateral sentencing consequences, teaches criminal, comparative and immigration law. Her switch from interim to permanent dean takes effect New Year’s Day.
