SILICON VALLEY Cathryn Gawne has joined Hopkins & Carley’s San Jose office as an of counsel in the corporate, tax and business transactions department. Gawne comes to the firm from the Silicon Valley Law Group. She graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1982. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has added four intellectual property associates in its Silicon Valley office, all from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Theresa Norton received her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1997. An Doan received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2006. Helen Li received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2006. Michael Ting received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in 2006. SACRAMENTO Norman Hile was appointed to the Ninth Circuit Advisory Board by Chief Judge Mary Schroeder. Hile, the partner in charge of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s Sacramento office, focuses his practice on business and government litigation. He is a 1973 graduate of Columbia Law School. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Penny Cobey has joined McKenna Long & Aldridge’s Los Angeles office as an of counsel in the real estate and finance practice. Cobey was previously with Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri. She graduated from Harvard Law School in 1984. Strauss Law Group in Ventura has added Bruce Crary as an associate. Crary, who comes to the firm from Ballard Rosenberg Golper & Savitt, focuses on labor and employment law. He received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1988. Richard Welsh has joined Greenberg Traurig as a partner in the Los Angeles office. Welsh, who was previously with Kirkland & Ellis, is a member of the litigation practice. He is a 2000 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law.
