LOS ANGELES — The U.S. Department of Transportation has ruled that new charges on terminals at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are unjustly discriminatory against seven major airline companies. AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, ATA Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines and US Airways Group, which use Terminals 1 and 3 at LAX, filed the complaint with the Department in February. As part of the June 15 ruling, the owner of LAX, Los Angeles World Airports, must refund the airlines for excessive rents charged to the airlines. Roy Goldberg, a partner in the Washington office of Los Angeles-based Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, represented the airlines in the case.
