BOSTON � Michigan law firm Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone plans to open a Cambridge, Mass., office this month with two in-house lawyers from local biotech companies. Miller Canfield hired Raymond G. Arner, former chief intellectual property counsel of Biogen Idec Inc. and Viacell Inc.’s former general counsel and senior vice president of business and corporate development, Anne Marie Cook. The Detroit-based Miller Canfield wants to establish roots in Cambridge’s diverse and dynamic life sciences market, said firm CEO Michael W. Hartmann. “Our expertise and geographic reach in North America and Eastern Europe will create new opportunities and international access for clients,” Hartmann said. Miller Canfield has more than 350 attorneys and offices and offices in Michigan, Florida, New York, Canada and Poland.
