AKERMAN SENTERFITT Lisa Savitt has joined Akerman Senterfitt as of counsel in the firm’s litigation and global practice groups. She represents foreign and domestic clients in product-liability matters, tort cases, intellectual property and trademark disputes, and commercial litigation. Previously, Savitt, 50, was a partner at Blank Rome, where she concentrated on international litigation. She received her J.D. from New York Law School.
BALLARD SPAHR ANDREWS & INGERSOLL Daniel Tobin has joined Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll as a partner in the firm’s Bethesda, Md., office. He practices civil litigation with a focus on disputes involving lending companies. Previously, Tobin, 46, was a partner at Linowes and Blocher. He received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
CROWELL & MORING Two attorneys were elected partner and five attorneys were named counsel at Crowell & Moring. Bridget Calhoun, now a partner, focuses on antitrust law, consumer protection, and product risk management and represents clients in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, antitrust investigations, and civil litigation. Before joining the firm in 1999, Calhoun, 35, clerked for Judge Walter Black Jr. of the U.S. District Court in Maryland. She obtained her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. Stephen Palan was also elected partner and practices intellectual-property litigation with a focus on wireless, wireline, and data-networking technologies. Before joining the firm in 2004, Palan, 34, was a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received his J.D. from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Jean Baxley was named counsel in the firm’s tax practice, where she concentrates on insurance-taxation issues, privilege issues, civil tax penalties, and tax reporting and disclosure. Prior to joining the firm in 2006, she was an associate with Steptoe & Johnson. Baxley, 44, received her LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. Jennifer Knight, who joined the firm in 2001 as an associate, has become counsel. She focuses on employment litigation as well as complex commercial and tort litigation in the firm’s labor and employment and tort practices. Knight, 30, earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Michael Paddock, 31, formerly an associate, is now counsel in the firm’s health-care practice. He advises health-care providers and health plans on federal and state regulations and compliance issues. Before joining Crowell in 2005, Paddock was an associate at Hogan Marren. He received his LL.M. in health law from the Institute for Health Law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Traci Rodriguez, who practices in the firm’s litigation group, has become counsel. Before joining the firm as an associate in 2004, Rodriguez, 33, was a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s Tax Division, where she litigated cases in federal, state, and bankruptcy courts. She earned her law degree from Tulane University Law School. Ryan Tisch, formerly an associate, is now counsel in the firm’s antitrust group. He focuses on antitrust business counseling, merger counseling, and government investigations. Tisch, 30, joined the firm in 2001 after earning his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
FLETCHER, HEALD & HILDRETH Joseph Di Scipio, 39, has been elected partner at Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth. His practice includes mass media, wireless, and common-carrier issues with a focus on Federal Communications Commission regulations. Previously special counsel, Di Scipio joined the firm in 2005 after practicing as a partner at Cohn and Marks. He earned his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.
GIBSON, DUNN & CRUTCHER Susan Grafton has joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher as of counsel. Grafton, 48, is a former vice president and associate general counsel for Goldman Sachs and has a background in business, regulatory, and compliance matters in relation to the securities industry. She received her LL.M. in securities regulation from Georgetown University Law Center and her J.D. from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
LERCH, EARLY & BREWER Genevieve Quarfoot, 28, has joined Lerch, Early & Brewer as an associate in the Bethesda, Md., firm’s litigation practice. She will represent businesses as well as individuals in both civil and commercial litigation. Quarfoot received her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
PATTON BOGGS Three attorneys were elected partner at Patton Boggs. Yost Conner Jr., who was previously of counsel, assists developers, tenants, and owners in commercial real estate transactions and construction projects. Before joining the firm in 1999, Conner, 43, was an associate at Hazel & Thomas in Falls Church, Va. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Matthew Cutts handles complex civil and criminal litigation involving businesses and represents foreign and domestic clients in dispute and fraud cases as well as in federal and state investigations. Before joining the firm in 1999 as an associate, Cutts, 35, clerked for then-Chief Judge Annice Wagner of the D.C. Court of Appeals. He earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Andrew Friedman, who was previously of counsel, concentrates on civil enforcement matters, government investigations, and criminal proceedings. Prior to joining the firm in 1998, Friedman, 40, was a public defender for the state of New Hampshire. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
ROSS, DIXON & BELL Rebecca Woods has been elected partner at Ross, Dixon & Bell. She practices complex civil litigation. Woods, 34, joined the firm’s D.C. office in 2004, before which she was an associate at Covington & Burling. She received her law degree from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
TROUTMAN SANDERS Amie Colby, 35, has been elected partner at Troutman Sanders. Colby, a member of the firm’s energy practice, represents investor-owned electric utilities in regulatory and corporate compliance as well as investigations and disputes before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She joined the firm in 1999 and received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. — Attila Berry
