Houston-based Bracewell & Giuliani is continuing to build its New York City office by adding four new lawyers this week. David Albalah joins the firm’s Big Apple office as a bankruptcy and restructuring partner, leaving Chicago’s McDermott Will & Emery. Julian Rainero joins the firm as a securities partner from Boston’s Bingham McCutchen. Associate Scott Gutmanstein also is moving from Bingham McCutchen to Bracewell’s NYC office. Craig Warkol, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, joins the firm and will focus on white-collar crime and regulatory defense cases. The firm now has 27 lawyers in New York City and 361 attorneys firmwide. “Our growth in New York stems from client demand for M&A, capital markets, corporate restructuring and regulatory advice, especially in the energy and financial service sectors,” says Bracewell senior partner Rudolph Giuliani. “I’m pleased that we’ve been able to build such a high-caliber team in little more than a year.” Former New York City mayor Giuliani launched Bracewell & Giuliani’s New York office in May 2005. The firm formerly was known as Bracewell & Patterson.
