San Francisco-based firm Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold moved into Austin with a new office led by media/litigation lawyer Laura Lee Prather. Prather left Jackson Walker in Austin, where she had been a partner since 1998, to open the Sedgwick office on June 14. Prather, who will work in the firm’s commercial practices group, says Sedgwick provides her with a “fantastic opportunity” because it is a national firm with offices in California, New York and Texas, and that’s a good fit for her media clients. Her clients include Clear Channel Communications, Fox Broadcasting Co. and Court TV, among others. Sedgwick, which has 351 lawyers firmwide, moved into the Texas market in 2001, when it opened a Dallas office. The firm now has 30 lawyers in Dallas. Neil Rambin, managing partner of the Dallas office of Sedgwick, could not immediately be reached for comment, but he says in a press release that Prather is a “wonderful addition to our team of incredibly talented attorneys.” Wade Cooper, managing partner in Austin for Jackson Walker, could not immediately be reached for comment about Prather’s departure. Prather says Sedgwick intends to add lawyers in Austin. In fact, she says that on June 26, Catherine Robb, a granddaughter of former President Lyndon Baines Johnson, will join Sedgwick in Austin as a senior counsel. Robb, who could not immediately be reached for comment, had been counsel at Austin’s George & Brothers. The Austin office is Sedgwick’s 12th office.
